Armed police stormed a street in the west end of Glasgow this afternoon following a serious assault on a 39-year-old man. The incident occurred on Lincoln Avenue in the Knightswood area, prompting a heavy police response.
Officers arrived on the scene just after 5 pm after receiving reports of the violent attack. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance, while investigators began their work to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.
Footage circulating on social media captured armed police officers clutching assault rifles outside a high-rise block of flats. The 28-second video clip, believed to have been filmed from a window within one of the buildings, also shows sirens wailing and an ambulance arriving at the scene.
In the video, an officer is seen walking along the main road toward the arriving ambulance. As the clip progresses, the officer follows the ambulance as it moves toward the building from which the footage was filmed. Two officers are later seen standing guard, while another pair appears to be assisting someone on the ground near some outbuildings, just a few yards from the car park.
Armed police were called in due to the violent nature of the assault and the potential risk of further violence.
A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the incident: “Around 5:10 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, officers were made aware of a serious assault at Lincoln Avenue, Glasgow.
