A man has been charged after two officers were harmed following an alleged ‘chainsaw chase’ in Paisley.
Police hurried to Glasgow Road due to a disruption “involving a weapon” on Monday afternoon. It is thought to have occurred after a car collided with a parked police car.
Police confirmed on Monday that a 30-year-old man was arrested regarding the incident. They have now stated that the man has been charged and will face court at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Police Scotland had earlier released a statement assuring that there was no ongoing danger to the public.
Glasgow Road was shut between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue while probes were conducted, and motorists were advised to steer clear of the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson declared: “At about 1pm on Monday, May 6, 2024, a clash involving a weapon took place after a car hit a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley. Two officers sustained injuries and received paramedic care.
“A 30-year-old man has been apprehended and charged relating to this event. He is scheduled to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 7. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
