The M4 eastbound stretch close to Heathrow Airport in west London was shut down as police looked into an “incident” on the expressway.
National Highways (NH) alerted drivers of probable delays spanning 20 minutes with three miles of backup caused by the incident at Junction 3 earlier Monday morn.
“Due to a recent incident, road’s closed at J3 for @metpoliceuk to conduct investigation work,” NH tweeted.
This vital artery into the city was sealed off just past 6am, enabling the Metropolitan Police to perform their duties.
The situation was resolved and the motorway’s lanes were all reopened by 8:15am.
NH advised that “delays are persisting, however, they’re starting to diminish and expected to clear shortly.”
In another traffic news, the M3 experienced a shutdown after a crash occurred. The eastbound side near Junction 11 in Winchester, Hampshire, was closed ’round 7.30am.
With one lane closed on the motorway, motorists were warned to anticipate delays pushing up to 45 minutes.
Traffic flow has since returned to normal.
“Post the earlier crash, the vehicles have been cleared off, and all the lanes have reopened,” NH announced.
A “30 min delay is still present but should start to ease now,” they added.
